Jonna Buell Scholarship Fund
.
Jonna Buell—much loved wife, mother, daughter, sister, teacher and friend—passed away Saturday evening, Nov. 21, after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer.

In tribute to Jonna’s dedication to education, her family has established the Jonna Buell Scholarship Fund, an endowed fund designed to assist students with financial needs at Rogers Adventist School, Walla Walla Valley Academy and Walla Walla University.

Donations to the fund can be made online by clicking here, then choose the "add more offerings" option.  Checks may be mailed to the Walla Walla University Church, 212 SW 4th Street, College Place, WA, 99324, and marked for the Jonna Buell Scholarship Fund.

Jonna’s dedication to education

Jonna devoted much of her life and work to education. “She spent an enormous amount of time volunteering in our school system (Rogers, WWVA, and WWU),” says Jonna’s husband, Monty. “She was always concerned about students whose families struggled to pay for school.”

She earned a degree in elementary education from WWU in 1989, and she worked as a mentor in the WWU Freshman Success Program.

Her passion for education and service was also evident as she faced multiple sclerosis and pancreatic cancer. When she was diagnosed with MS, Monty says, she didn’t complain, but instead focused her energy on creating a packet of information that could educate others diagnosed with MS “so they wouldn’t be so frightened of what lay ahead.”

When she was diagnosed with cancer, Jonna’s approach was again focused outward and on education—working, from experience, on ways to help other cancer patients manage the flood of information that would come their way.

Monty describes Jonna as “just pure brainpower”—an excellent student herself—and says this fund “will be a fitting legacy for Jonna.”
